Extended Crochet Stitches

Extended Crochet stitches are really simple.  They help to make the post of a stitch just a little longer, usually so that other stitches can be worked into them or around them.  No worries, though, these stitches are worked the same as your basic stitches but with one added step.

The usual abbreviation used for this stitch is ex.  It is added to the front of the basic stitch's abbreviation.  So, if the pattern called for extended single crochet, the abbreviation would be exsc; extended double crochet, exdc; extended half double crochet, exhdc.

You get the idea.  so let's give it a try.

Extended Single Crochet

Yo and pull through the stitch.

Yo and pull through the FIRST LOOP ONLY on the hook.

Yo and pull through the last 2 loops on the hook.

Extended Half Double Crochet
